The Different Sorts Of Keynote Speakers And Their Strengths At Conferences
Thursday, March 31st, 2011There are so many different types of keynote speaker to choose from. Choosing the right speaker for the occasion is extremely important and can make or break your day. If you need help, consult a speakers agency who will only be happy to assist you make your choice.
The most common type is the motivational speaker. Motivational speakers, no surprise to be had, motivate their audience! There are a number of techniques that let them do their job. Some do the very basics- dispelling myths about fear and anxiety and getting the audience to believe in themselves. The smarter motivational speaker will be well versed in psychology and will apply psychological techniques to help them. A motivational speaker will normally have some kind of book or publication that documents their methods and beliefs. From personal experience I’ve found some motivational speakers exceptional, and some plain awful. The simple approach for me is a little naive. Think of the money a motivational speaker has- of course they don’t have every day worries like money! They are already a success! The better motivational speaker will be more in tune with their audience needs.
On the other hand, a business speaker is a far more serious person. A self-made entrepreneur is a good example of a business speaker. Business speakers are specifically tailored to help business owners and employees. A variety of areas are covered such as sales and marketing.
Comedy speakers are great fun! A comedy speaker’s job is to make the audience laugh! Comedy speakers are normally found at the top table of a business event organised by a company to entertain clients. Typically, the comedy speaker comes on first to warm the audience up. A sports speaker will then for example, follow as the main event.
There are many, many sports speakers! Most sports people that haven’t gone into coaching or a job in the media, are after dinner speakers! Former footballer are always in great demand. Sports speakers are great, because they really appeal to the audience. Listening to a childhood hero is always going to keep the audience capitvated.
Inspirational speakers are very similar to motivational speakers. The only difference, is that the inspirational speaker can better inspire the audience. Inspirational speakers have normally achieved something remarkable. They simply recall their story to the audience who are glued to the speaker. Putting your life into perspective is what an inspirational story can do. After all, if the speaker can achieve what they did, what is to stop you?
