Moving to Atlanta, GA

Friday, July 30th, 2010

According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a complete area of 343.0 km2 (132.4 sq mi). 341.2 km2 (131.7 sq mi) of it is land and 1.8 km2 (1 sq mi) of it is water. The whole area is 0.51% water. At about 1,050 feet (320 m) above mean sea level the airport is at 1,010 feet (308 m), Atlanta sits on top of a ridge south of the Chattahoochee River. The Eastern Continental Divide line accesses Atlanta from the south, proceeding to the downtown area. From downtown, the divide line runs eastward along side DeKalb Avenue and the CSX rail lines through Decatur.   Rainwater that falls on the south and east side eventually runs into the Atlantic Ocean, while rainwater on the north and west side of the divide runs into the Gulf of Mexico  via the Chattahoochee River. That river is part of the ACF River Basin, and is where Atlanta and many of its neighbors draw most of their water. Being at the far northwestern edge of the city, much of the river’s natural habitat is still preserved, in part by the Chattahoochee River National Recreation Area. Downstream however, excessive water use during droughts and pollution during floods has been a source of legal battles and contention with neighboring states Alabama and Florida.

.Atlanta has a humid subtropical climate,  according to the Köppen classification, with hot, humid summers and mild, but sometimes cold winters by the standards of the southern United States. July highs average 89 °F (32 °C) or above, and low average 71 °F (22 °C).  Rarely , temperatures can even exceed 100 °F (38 °C). The highest temperature recorded in the city is 105 °F (41 °C), reached in July, 1980.  January is the chilliest month, with an average high of 52 °F (11 °C), and low of 33 °F (1 °C).   Generally average lows are in the upper 20s and lower 30s in the north Georgia region. Warm fronts can bring springlike temperatures in the 60s (high teens) and 70s (low 20s) in winter, and Arctic air masses can drop nighttime temperatures into the teens (−11 to -7 C). The coldest temperature ever recorded was −9 °F (−23 °C) in February 1899.   A close second was −8 °F (−22 °C), reached in January 1985.  Atlanta has a more temperate climate than other southern cities of the same latitude due to its relatively high elevation of 1,050 feet (320 m) above sea level. Like the rest of the southeastern U.S., Atlanta receives abundant rainfall, which is relatively evenly distributed throughout the year. Average annual rainfall is 50.2 inches (1,275 mm).36 An average year sees frost on 36 days; snowfall averages about 2 inches (5 cm) a year . The heaviest single storm brought 10 inches (25 cm) on January 23, 1940.  Blizzards are rare but possible; one hit in March 1993. Frequent ice storms can cause more problems than snow; the most severe such storm may have occurred on January 7, 1973.

Start Some New Habits – Heal Your Broken Heart

Friday, July 30th, 2010

It only take three weeks to start a new habit and that means it also only takes three weeks to stop any bad ones. If you are still moping over your breakup and consumed over every little thing that wrong – STOP!!! We have to get up and start living again although it is quite typical to feel crushed for a long time after losing someone we care about. Now put the junk food away and get out of those ugly old sweatpants, it’s time to begin some new habits and try something new to mend your broken heart!

The very first thing we have to do is put an end to all the terrible habits we are doing now. Are you constantly checking Facebook or Twitter to see what is going on in your ex’s life? Are you casually bringing them up in conversations with friends you still share? We want to know if our ex feels the same hurt we do, just as we want them to miss us as much as we miss them. You need to make a huge effort to break these habits so you can heal. Whenever you are feeling that pull to check online or to bring up your ex, pinch yourself. Not lightly but hard! By becoming aware of these bad habits you can start to stop yourself from doing them.

Now that our arms are all red from pinching ourselves we need to start some new habits to help distract us from the ones we are trying to break. We need to begin to feel good about ourselves again so the first habit we should get into is complementing ourselves. I know this will feel weird at first but sit down and write 10 things about yourself that are good. It could be as simple as this:

My 10 best attributes:

  1. I really look good in…
  2. I’m also very…
  3. My … really kicks butt!
  4. I really love my…
  5. I’m really good at…
  6. I’m very…
  7. I have great…
  8. One of my best skills is/are…
  9. I’ve very good at…
  10. My … is/are my best feature.

Now every morning you are going to get up and look in the mirror and repeat these 10 things and don’t squint your face up as you do it, act like you mean it! You are going to begin to like yourself again the more you say it, because the more you say it the more you will believe it.

Next we are going to join something new. Is there something you have always wanted to try? Running, rock climbing, creative writing or learning to cook? Joining something will help you get your self confidence back and met new people, and you can learn a new skill along the way. These people are going to get to know you as “single” you, not “couple” you.

Trying something new and beginning new habits will give you something else to concentrate on beside what is going on with your ex. For 21 days try these 2 things and see how much better you begin to feel. Are you feeling more confident? Are you thinking about your ex less often? We are just beginning to retrain how we feel about ourselves and healing our broken heart takes time.

Hewlett-Packard, Konica-Minolta, and Xerox: Toner or Solid Ink

Thursday, July 29th, 2010

If you own a printer then you know how expensive the replacement cartridges can be, Xerox and HP toner refills can cost upwards of 75 dollars apiece, and you are probably looking for a viable alternative. For the past several years inkjet and laser printers have been the only options available, which has brought about a debate over what method is more efficient and cost-effective. Laser printers have taken over the majority of the small commercial markets, proving that they are the better investment for people with a large demand for printing.

However, with the introduction of Xerox’s solid ink printer that has changed the future prospects of the market in numerous ways. Companies that sell inkjet and Laser printers rely on their replacement cartridges in order to bolster profits. They subsidize their printers with the extra money, because they know that you will have to buy their proprietary consumables if you own their hardware. On the other hand, solid ink printers require a large initial investment because the ink costs do not make them much money.

To choose between them you have to gauge your printer usage and find the solution that best fits you: consider the volume you print in a month, whether you require photo-quality images, the length of time you will have the printer running at any given point, and how much of your work must be done in color. Once you have this in mind you can then look into different printers to find the one you need, whether it be an HP 5700, a Magicolor 2400 toner printer, or a Phaser 8560.

Knowing that a company like Xerox has both laser and solid ink printing makes it an ideal place to start comparing the different methods of printing because you know that they are going to try to sell you on either product, which makes their comments less likely to contain negative claims about the other printing methods. Use this relative objectivity to compare Xerox Toner cartridge costs with their solid ink sticks in order to find out which has a lower printing cost (per page). Once you have done that you should examine the initial investments in each machine and try to figure out how your printing will affect the way they operate. The final objective in such an examination is to figure out if it is worthwhile for you to invest in an expensive solid ink printer, rather than a less expensive laser printer that requires more money for toner.
